Genetec's technology centralizes the security of the Port of Barcelona
The Port Authority of Barcelona you have implemented the platform Genetec Security Center to unify video surveillance, Access control and intrusion detection in a single interface.
The Port of Barcelona has improved your security, efficiency and operational capability thanks to the Video surveillance, Access control and intrusion detection by Genetec.
This is one of the main logistics hubs in the Mediterranean and the first peninsular port in international traffic. In recent years it has experienced continuous growth, which has generated new operational and security needs. In response to these challenges, the city's Port Authority undertook an ambitious modernisation process with the aim of transforming the port into a safer environment, Smart and efficient.
Until recently, the Port of Barcelona had an effective security system, but with technical limitations that prevented the integration of new technologies and interoperability with systems from different manufacturers.
This situation compromised security and made it difficult to make decisions in real time, a critical aspect in the management of a port infrastructure of this magnitude.
To overcome these limitations, The Port Authority of Barcelona held a public tender. Genetec Security Center was the platform selected for its ability to unify video surveillance, access control, Intrusion detection and other technologies in a single interface, providing unprecedented flexibility and scalability.
"Security Center's ability to integrate devices from different manufacturers and its modular design guarantees us a long-term solution that evolves according to our needs", Explains Dídac Höflich, ICT Infrastructure Project Manager at the Port of Barcelona.
The implementation began with a pilot migration using virtual servers to evaluate camera and software integration. In a short time, Puero de Barcelona completed the migration of its CCTV infrastructure, expanding its network of 180 Initial chambers 530 Active Devices, with the expectation of exceeding the 800 units in the coming years.
In addition, technologies such as access control have been incorporated, Intercoms, Advanced video analytics, Forensic inspection, Real-time fire detection and occupancy analysis.
Impact and benefits
With the adoption of Genetec technology. Port operators can manage all systems from a single tool, simplifying your work and improving operational efficiency. In addition, Incident response times have been reduced and the infrastructure has been optimized for maintenance and management.
The system has also generated significant savings in operating and maintenance costs. Even, during high-traffic events, such as the Copa America or Nadal al Port, The platform facilitates the efficient management of the flow of people and vehicles, ensuring a safe and organized experience.
"The centralization of systems has reduced incident response times, while proactive monitoring has improved security throughout the port. We now have full control of the system with minimal margin of error.", explains Höflich. "Genetec has not only provided us with robust technology, but it has also given us the peace of mind of knowing that we are prepared for any challenge. This project propels us towards a safer future, efficient and sustainable".
Future project
Following the successful implementation of the Genetec Security Center platform, the Port Authority has ambitious plans for the future with new use cases. Among them, highlights the integration of an advanced system of reading license plates to optimize internal traffic and the expansion of dashboards that analyze usage patterns in public areas such as parking lots.
Also, are exploring the use of Aerial drones for emergency management and Aquatic drones for inspections on the water surface, as well as the implementation of IoT sensor technologies for more detailed monitoring.
The collaboration with Genetec has been a crucial component in achieving the objectives that the Port of Barcelona set itself to become a smart port.
