High Point University Deploys Comprehensive Axis Security Solution
The network and body cameras of Axis Communications, along with their intercoms, Evacuation loudspeakers and video analytics make up the project carried out in this North American field to improve its protection.
Since its founding in 1924, The High Point University, located in North Carolina (Us.), has experienced rapid growth, with the construction of New Academic Buildings and administrative, sports and leisure fields to respond to the educational demand of the area.
In light of this campus expansion, One of the systems that has also been expanded is that of Security, As he explains Robert Hisey, Deputy Director of Safety and Security Technology at High Point University, with manufacturer technology Axis Communications.
"Today we have more than 2.100 Active recording cameras. We have equipped our security professionals with body cameras and increased the installation of equipment with Advanced analytics to provide warnings and we also add Speakers to help us quickly provide critical emergency communications to our students, teachers and staff".
The Access Control Integration, Speakers and cameras with analytics It has also helped reduce open door incidents in campus residential buildings. "We use Axis Object Analytics to check alerts from our access control system before sending a warning message to a door speaker", Hisey adds.
One of the reasons High Point University was an early adopter of body cameras was transparency. "We've tried a lot of body cameras over the years," he explains Jay Atkins, Deputy Chief of Police of this academic center-. When we test the Axis model against those of other manufacturers, the choice was clear".
Among other advantages of this decision, Atkins notes that "we can bring the body cameras directly to our VMS platform, which makes it easier to give more people permission to view the recordings rather than relying on one or two experts from the department who may not always be available.".
As a result, Police and campus security are involved in investigations faster and provide better care to students, University Faculty and Staff.
In addition to video quality, The ability to send images directly to the software to the video management software of Milestone Systems has been another fundamental characteristic in this election.
"Analytics have transformed the way we use our security technology. Cameras and other devices don't just keep our community safe, but also provide information on how we can improve all facets of campus life", Hisey adds.
Like other academic centers, High Point University has Emergency Call Stations campus-wide to ask for assistance. "We decided to change the old phones on our security posts for Network Video Intercoms, because technology allows us to connect from point to point and perform remote monitoring".
With the current Device Management Software, The university's security team can see all video intercoms at once, or one at a time to check for connection issues. The team can even test the audio quality through a web interface.
Video intercoms have also been installed in the Campus Access Tickets. "If a vehicle arrives at the door and no one is there, you can use the intercom to call our operations center," Hisey explains- And, in this way, having a video conversation with the occupants of the vehicle before deciding whether they can enter".
For everyone's safety, with other restricted access areas, such as the university suites and the police department, The university maintains the Internal doors locked, with the installation of 2N With Digital directories and touch screens.
The installation of network speakers throughout the campus has been an integral part of the university's mass communications system. Through intelligent software, Security personnel may Broadcast messages to all speakers on campus, to a specific group or even to a single team.
As an additional security measure, The university relies on camera analytics to detect if someone enters an area after closing hours. The detection activates an acoustic warning to scare away the offender and for security personnel to come quickly.
Among other projects planned to get the most out of the installed security solution, stake the Using camera analytics to optimize staff scheduling, reducing checkout lines at campus restaurants and speeding up the process of receiving food from students.
Another idea is to use the cameras to Monitor freezer temperature and avoid food waste, even gardeners to use outdoor cameras remotely to Detect maintenance issues, such as fountains that do not work properly or green spaces that need maintenance.
University officials also plan to use smart cameras to counting people waiting at shuttle bus stops and make real-time decisions about whether to send additional buses.
