Renfe Atocha suburban trains

Under the RS3 project, Renfe is digitizing the security infrastructure of stations with anti-intrusion solutions, Access Control, CCTV cameras and recorders, in addition to including network management systems and centralization of the main elements that make up the new intelligent video surveillance equipment.

Renfe The first phase of the RS3 project (Renfe Smart Security Station) with the installation of intelligent video surveillance In 415 Cercanías stations throughout Spain. This first stage of the project has had 25,8 million euros of investment and is part of the Recovery Plan, EU Transformation and Resilience NextGenerationEU.

For this year, Renfe plans to execute a second phase of the RS3 project, which will begin next March, to put into operation advanced security installations in 182 Stations More.

The goal is for this project to be completed by mid-2000. 2026, until the installation of intelligent video surveillance in 597 Stations of the 12 Cercanías and Rodalies hubs throughout the national territory. The investment planned for this second phase is 6,5 millions of euros, also financed with NextGenerationEU funds.

Digitalization of security systems

One of the objectives of the RS3 project is the Digitalization of security systems of the seasons with solcuiones anti-intrusion and of access control, cameras and Recorders CCTV, as well as the installation of Network Management and Centralization Systems of the main elements that make up the security infrastructure of the stations.

With these improvements, a greater perception of security is achieved by the traveler, while updating security systems that were obsolete. The new system allows the Remote monitoring of all installed security systems and improves the quality of the images received by the Security Centers 24 Renfe hours, which can be used to investigate events of various kinds that occur in the stations.

Thanks to this intelligent security system, it will be possible to detect it in real time, through the Footfall analysis, Maximum capacities and crowds, which will allow more personnel to be directed to the stations that need it at all times. It will also be possible to detect and analyze fraud in access control, Falls of people on platforms or onto the tracks, in addition to fires or acts of vandalism such as graffiti or breaking furniture.

Through criminal behavior analytics, The system can detect fights and aggressions. These analytics generate real-time alarms in the Security Centers 24 Renfe hours.

Analytics with artificial intelligence

The system collects and processes thousands of data in an anonymous and automated way through the CCTV system's cameras that are connected to the Analytics Servers of each station, where they are processed and analyzed with artificial intelligence algorithms. Subsequently, Treated images are deleted from the system within milliseconds.

In this sense, The digitalisation of security systems and the implementation of intelligent video analytics solutions will turn railway stations into high-performance spaces. Predictive Security. The goal is to improve security and customer experience, always in strict compliance with data protection regulations.

To implement these solutions, Renfe has leading companies in Imaging Intelligence and Analytics Technologies, How are they Infinity Neural E Imotion Analytics (the latter is one of the startups accelerated with our TrenLab innovation program).

Digitized security elements

By the end of the second phase of the project, the security systems of 597 suburban stations with the installation of more than 9.000 IP cameras, more than 600 CCTV recorders and many other video analytics servers, among other elements. In this sense, video streams of more than 6.000 cameras in more than 600 Servers, which will allow information to be obtained from the stations in a single dashboard.

Having access to live information on the evolution of the Cercanías service is key to improving the passenger experience, that certainty and reliability prevail when choosing a means of transport. In this sense, Frequency and punctuality are the main attributes that public transport must meet in order to attract passengers from private cars, one of the objectives of the Recovery Plan, Transformation and Resilience (PRTR).
