HID Facilitates Access Control at the International University of Ecuador

The physical credentials of the UIDE, although functional, presented opportunities for optimization in their issuance process, since they required photographing each student, which implied a significant use of time and resources. In addition, The college admissions process could benefit from improvements to simplify it.

To counter these challenges, settled in 52 readership HID Sign, that support a wide range of credential technologies, including HID Mobile Access via native Bluetooth and NFC, and support credentials in digital wallets.

Now every student can enter more efficiently and safely by bringing their mobile phone close to the sensor, while the directives register those who enter the campus.

Edgar Baus, Chief Technology Officer (Bt.) of the UIDE, underlines the integration of the solution with the university's active directory. "HID provides us with innovative tools that integrate seamlessly with the university's academic and security processes".

An investment in the future

In addition to complying with security and data protection standards, this technology allows access management that aligns with UIDE's current trends in more sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.

The response of the students is considered positive, which led to an increase in the number of virtual credentials issued, which were initially 2.000 and expanded to 5.500 due to the great demand in this first stage of the project that is being executed on the Quito campus.

With expansion plans on the Guayaquil and Loja campuses, the UIDE advances in the implementation of this solution. “Hemos implementado esta tecnología en nuestro Health Sciences Campus y estamos en proceso de reestructuración completa en la UIDE de Loja,” afirma Nicool Guerrón Moreno, directora de Gestión Universitaria de la UIDE.
