Indra provides its technology for the safe management of the longest bridge in the Philippines
The integrated traffic and infrastructure management platform of Indra, together with its intelligent transport systems (ITS); deployment of FO and communications; video surveillance and CCTV; automatic license plate recognition with speed detection, Etc. are some of the elements that make up this project.
Coinciding with the celebration of the 500 anniversary of the first circumnavigation of the world by the Magellan-Elcano expedition in the Philippines, the newly opened highway connects Cebu City with the municipality of Cordova and the island of Mactan, across the longest and highest bridge in the country.
This complex infrastructure, of 8,9 Km, built on concrete stilts raised from the seabed, will have a great impact both economically and touristically in the area, with an estimated traffic of 50.000 vehicles per day.
After being chosen by Cebu Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), technological engineering Indra has implemented on the motorway its Horus platform integrated traffic and infrastructure management, along with their Intelligent transport systems (ITS), that are part of the line of solutions Mova Traffic.
Indra's platform allows monitor and control in real time all traffic and safety systems that are part of the infrastructure and that intervene in the management of traffic, with a single interface that facilitates operation and decision making.
With a high level of automation, this technological platform contributes to reducing the risk of incidents, automatically detects them when they occur and streamlines their management, complying with the highest safety standards and service level.
Thanks to static and dynamic weighing systems on the bridge, Indra's solution allows to limit the access of vehicles with excess load and, in this way, improve maintenance, conservation and durability of the bridge. The same, it is possible to limit the speed or access to the bridge in the event of adverse weather conditions, to offer the highest security.
The scope of this project for the largest bridge in the Philippines has included the fiber optic deployment and communications to give connectivity to the entire highway, as well as the supply, installation and integration of Intelligent transport systems (ITS).
They are joined by field teams, as the closed circuit television cameras (Cctv), intelligent video surveillance to detect incidents, automatic license plate recognition with speed detection (Alpr), signage and variable messaging panels and SOS poles.
The same, includes infrastructure monitoring through different sensores, as accelerometers, extensiometers, Gps, electrical and lighting systems, Etc.
Digitalization and sustainability
"This project is a clear example of sustainable development. In addition to providing greater safety to drivers, will contribute to boosting economic activity in Cebu and Cordova, facilitating its interconnection and with the international airport of Mactan. Reducing travel times will also help improve environmental quality in the region, reducing CO2 emissions", Explains Berta Barrero, General Manager of Mobility at Indra.
Thanks to this project, technological engineering consolidates its position as a technological partner of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation, parent company of CCLEC (Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corporation) and the largest toll road concessionaire and operator in the Philippines.
Indra also has references in this country such as the urban traffic control center of Manila, toll systems on the access highway to Metro Manila, North Luzon Expressway and Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway, and the communications system on the Calaex motorway – Cavite-Laguna Expressway.
