Milestone XProtect manages more than 1.400 Anaheim School District IP Cameras
The Anaheim Union High School District (AUHSD), one of the largest in California, has installed its first IP video surveillance system, in which XProtect video technology from Milestone Systems manages more than 1.400 Cameras.
Connected to five Orange County police departments, located south of Los Angeles, in California (Usa. U.S.), Anaheim Union Public School District (AUHSD) was known worldwide years ago for the loara High School shooting. Since then, and as in other schools in the country, incidents such as thefts have occurred, vandalism and graffiti.
The frequency of incidents was not only of concern to parents and staff at these centres., but it affected the image of the district itself, to which it was added that AUHSD lacked a centralized video security system to prevent, monitor and investigate such incidents.
Only some campuses had a few surveillance cameras with DVRs, so it was decided to strengthen the security infrastructure with a new IP network system, designed to prevent both petty crime and any scenario of the past.
The new system, defined and integrated by specialists HCI Systems And Velasea, is configured with the deployment of more than 1.400 IP cameras manufacturer's Hanwha Techwin, monitored with the video management platform (Vms) XProtect Expert of Milestone Systems.
One of the requirements of the installation of the system was to consolidate the monitoring of all the centers of the district, and the choice of XProtect Expert integrated all the components of the solution to facilitate both this tracking, such as triggering alerts and investigating incidents, with direct access to video during any emergency by local police.
HCI Systems implemented XProtect software to combine all video management in the district's IT center, while Velasea integrated a solution of DDN data storage of 1,4 petabytes, with twelve servers pre-installed and preloaded.
The specialist's TSG 360° cameras Sobel Group provide digital mapping of all district locations and security devices, since on campuses they have been installed 1.450 Model Q vandal resistant camerasNV-7080R 4MP Network IR by Hanwha Techwin.
The Hybrid VMS of the facility uses a mobile cloud server for Orange County Police, serving the five cities of the district, can access the video in real time if needed.
In this sense, and to assist staff if a potential incident with a shooter occurs again, The digital mapping joins up to 16.000 individual images in high-resolution 360º images, giving police 'virtual eyes' on campus, even classroom designs, the types of doors, as well as the entry and exit points.
AUHSD has also established blocking procedures, as well as security training in this type of incident. In addition, have been strategically installed on all nearby campuses with perimeter sensors, including a boundary sensor in the new pool of one of the centers.
As a result,, those responsible for each centre can respond quickly to unauthorised or suspicious access, and continue to identify target areas that require more additional cameras and sensors, as the maintenance yard.
"As we install the cameras, schools saw videos of vandalism and even stolen golf carts on their premises, and it was very demonstrative to see how many problems the system registered, which helped the district fight them.", Says Jason Beardsley, Vp. of the security division of HCI Systems.
The new video surveillance system has also helped the centers to monitor and control property damage., graffiti, Theft, student fights and other problems more efficiently and agilely. When an incident occurs they can quickly investigate the situation and, with the right evidence, refunds are possible.
Combined, centralized district-wide video view has improved response time to threats and incidents. Administrators can accurately locate pain points and security breaches: interactive multi-layer maps improve the overview of camera locations and designs of the entire facility.
"Milestone's software features are robust, so it's pretty easy to review images, reproduce and export them. It's a simple system, reliable and a key tool for solving problems", Underlines Erik Greenwood, AUHSD Chief Technology Officer.
On school campuses, the primary users of the VMS are the directors and their assistants, and in the district office it is the commercial directors who have access to visualize the operations of the facilities. To ensure the safety of people, Student Support Services can access all campus views.
To do this, Milestone Systems provided system training for different roles on-site with certified instructors who taught about a hundred administrators., security professionals and IT staff from schools.
"Our goal was to make the district as effective and self-sufficient as possible from the start.. On the positive side, there was no need to hire additional staff to manage the video system.", concludes Greenwood.
