GSS brings IP video surveillance to the Almudena Cathedral
The 6.000 m2 that make up one of the most emblematic monuments of Madrid, The Almudena Cathedral, are protected by an IP video surveillance solution, provided by GSS.
The Cathedral of Santa María la Real de la Almudena is one of the most emblematic religious monuments in Madrid. With the aim of guaranteeing, not only the protection but also the control of what happens in the 365 days a year, both outside and inside, an enclosure of more than 6.000 m2, an audit of the existing security system was performed for, subsequently, opt for an IP camera solution
This solution was studied and installed tailored to the needs of the Madrid cathedral, in order to ensure maximum safety, protection and control of the temple; of the museum, that preserves all kinds of material goods of the Cabildo (textiles, goldsmithing, sculpture, painting...), as well as institutions, congregations and those left in deposit for conservation; of the bronze doors, of great work and associated history; and the faithful themselves and tourist visitors who come to this historical monument.
The security solution provided by GSS saved costs and eliminated the risk of damaging the historic structure. To avoid uncomfortable situations in parishioners and visitors, cameras have been installed at discrete points, but with a total guarantee of control by the security personnel of the cathedral.
"GSS has managed to update and modernize the security system, ensuring greater control over people, goods and spaces, taking care of the conservation of the building and its assets, and respecting the protection of data and the privacy of visitors", comments Cristina Tarrero Alcón, director of the Museum of the Almudena Cathedral.
There are many churches, Cathedrals, monasteries and religious centers that have taken the decision to protect the works of art inside and control possible acts of vandalism on facades, such as the Cathedral of La Almudena, in Madrid.
This type of buildings, heritage in many cases and historical good, are exposed to a series of vulnerabilities such as theft and vandalism, control of alleys and non-main entrances, access, of works of art and historical heritage, and what happens inside.
