Iberia increases airport security with biometric detection with tablet
Along with Aena, Inetum and Thales, the airline evolves its facial recognition project at Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport, who has received support from the CDTI.
With the aim of increasing safety by avoiding contact, Iberia participates in this R&D project, as part of the consortium involved by Aena, Inetum And Thales, to look for new ways to operate in the air transport sector, taking into account the new health security measures implemented as a result of Covid-19.
This innovation project enables biometric detection of passengers through the use of mobile equipment (tablet type), which will improve your airport travel experience by streamlining the entire process and eliminating any physical contact, which further increases security in all airport formalities.
The use of these mobile equipment also incorporates the concept of mobility, so that with a small number of devices it is possible to operate a lot of different flights and destinations. The system will also improve detection capabilities, with the identification of passengers even with the protective mask.
This initiative has been supported by the Centre for Industrial Technological Development (Cdti), through the R&D cooperation program, thus contributing to the improvement of the technological level and the digitization of Spanish companies through the development of proposals based on innovation.
For this R&D project, and in compliance with new contactless security measures, the facial recognition platform deployed in the Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport (currently in the pilot phase) will serve as a scenario for the development of new features.
To this end,, for this project that has evolved over time (more details on Digital Security) the contribution of leading companies in their sectors to achieve the necessary developments and technological validation has been unified.
Specifically,, Iberia, as an operating airline; Inetum, as a systems integrator; Thales, as a provider of biometric technologies and identity validation processes, and Aena, as an airport manager, responsible for intermediate integration systems between airline and biometrics engine.
