Illinois high school renews its security system with Avigilon

Seca Municipality High School in Illinois bases its training program on training each student as an individual, analyzing what they need to feel supported and safe. In addition, seeks to create an environment of tolerance and respect, and a culture of affective and positive relationships for new and existing students. This may seem like a norm for an educational institution, but this school is distinguished by pragmatically and proactively investing in technology that allows it to implement its vision.
In addition to providing a technology-enhanced learning environment to help students form, in the Seneca Township High School has installed a security system to monitor the facilities. Responsibility and trust are two of the school's fundamental principles, and that's why I decided to have a video-based system.
Maintaining a robust and up-to-date safety system was costly and difficult for the school. Existing security technology also made a lot of investment in time and resources. That's why they decided to completely replace their current system and install a smarter solution with centralized controls.
Security solutions Avigilon of Motorola Solutions offered the technology the school needed. Installed 119 cameras on campus, including H4 multisensory sensors with adjustable sensors that capture images in several different directions, and video analysis with self-learning that, over time, they learn normal patterns to alert immediately and accurately about anomalies.
These solutions are managed with Avigilon Control Center software (Acc) and are compatible with Unusual Motion Detection technology (Umd), that marks any activity that deviates from the usual routine for quick review.
Avigilon Appearance Search technology is another feature of the system that enables a proactive approach to security. Makes sorting through hours of recorded video as easy as internet search, allowing specific individuals to be found, based on simple physical descriptors such as sex, the age or color of clothing. This has helped teachers and support staff monitor and discourage negative behavior, and has also allowed security and administrators to know who is on campus at all times.
While Avigilon's video security and analysis platform has enabled security operators at Seneca Township High School to validate complaints and verify people of interest when harassment or vandalism occurs, is equally valuable in determining when the facts did not take place on the school grounds.
“Ease of use, efficiency and being able to find incidents quickly are great benefits”, says Martin Harig, Seneca Township High School Technology Coordinator. “Before, finding an incident could take up to ten hours, now we can find it in 30 Seconds. Avigilon's video surveillance system provides an understanding of the situation that allows administrators and the school resource officer to see faces so they can respond quickly to events when action is required”.
Protected against COVID-19
Moreover, in these uncertain times, where a large number of students who gather could facilitate, unknowingly, the spread of coronavirus, Seneca Township High School's Avigilon system provides additional value.
Facial Mask Detection automatically recognizes and signals when someone has removed the masks, while the Occupation Count and Social Estating analysis helps administrators monitor how many people are on site and whether they maintain an appropriate personal space, or if other measures are needed to maintain a safe environment.
“Avigilon is an end-to-end solution”, says Ken Sangston, Seneca Township High School School Officer. “Customer service and support is easy, and the quality and clarity of the image are exceptional. In addition, bandwidth does not affect the network.”
