Montebello uses KBC Networks wireless transmission to fight vandalism
To end vandalism and graffiti, a flexible transmission system has been deployed, of the brand that markets in Spain and Portugal ProdexTec, and that allows cameras to be placed in strategic locations and transport IP Ethernet traffic to the end of the system.
The city of Montebello (California) faced a problem of vandalism and graffiti in his central business district and in the surrounding public parks. The authorities feared that these circumstances would harm commercial activity, as well as the quality of life of local residents and workers.
To address the problem, it was decided that it was time to implement a video surveillance system. The goal was to develop a system with a special audio sensor, that could detect the sound that occurs when the spray comes out of the paint can, allowing the nearest camera to respond by focusing on the offender and generating an image of the offender with the recorded time and date.
To make it work, a flexible transmission system had to be deployed that would allow the city to place cameras in strategic locations and transport IP Ethernet traffic properly from all cameras to the end of the system.
A peer-to-peer wireless Ethernet system was deployed that uses un licensing frequencies in the 5,8 Mhz. Wireless cameras have a transmission range of 0,8 To 3,2 Km, depending on the environment.
Considering both the ability to place cameras where they were needed, like the cost benefit of not having to dig the streets to install the cable, the wireless Ethernet system of KBC Networks, marketed by ProdexTec in Spain and Portugal, provided a solution that offered maximum return and a quick return on investment for the city.
The cameras were installed in less than a day. The system, configured in a peer-to-peer configuration, had no engineering flaws. The performance of the wireless system has since been exceptional, with a considerable decrease in incidents.
