Milestone manages 240 surveillance cameras to protect Art Cosmetics production

With the help of video technology, Italian makeup manufacturer Art Cosmetics is able to carefully monitor the transfer of products from the moment a shipment leaves its premises.

The makeup maker Art Cosmetics is using an innovative video surveillance solution to ensure its growth and the competitiveness of its products in the market, in its ten facilities located in the Italian province of Bergamo.

In the cosmetics industry, security and protection are paramount and ,in the case of Art Cosmetics, critical elements in your business infrastructure. This is explained by Giorgio Gerli, your IT security director: "we handle about five million kilos of goods a year. Because of its size and type, these products are exposed to theft and resale on the black market. Theft causes enormous economic and operational damage to the company and our customers"

One of Gerli's priorities has been to expand the video surveillance system to monitor, "that's no longer enough that we have. In our industry you have to be prepared for sudden spikes in demand, as well as for very high concentrations in a short period of time, when you have to classify large volumes of products".

The solution to respond to this need was not just to add new video cameras to the existing system, but the implementation of a new video surveillance strategy, where outdoor devices would be the only visible part of a complex architecture.

To create this strategy, Art Cosmetics trusted the advice of its partner Just It, that supported the company both in the analysis phase and in the implementation of a new security system.

Based on the analysis of the company's requirements, settled in 240 video cameras that are managed through XProtect, the open platform of Milestone Systems, selected by the ability to handle such a large number of video cameras and the easy operation of its software.

In addition, two external security companies are responsible for system management and monitoring of images captured by video surveillance cameras, "so it was essential to have a high performance solution and intuitive operation", gerli stresses.

Art Cosmetics was looking for more than just technology, because according to your security manager, "we were looking for a reliable partner who could react quickly and support staff operating the video surveillance system, and Milestone could guarantee all these services".

Currently, XProtect is also used for license plate control and for tracking company shipments. "We search the trucks that arrive, both before the products are picked up and when they are taken care of", Gerli points out.

At the request of its customers, Art Cosmetics set up the system to monitor the transfer of products and document status and quantity when they leave their facilities, "which saves enormous time and money," he says.. If the goods show damage at the time of delivery, we can prove that we are not responsible for them or if they were accidentally charged".

The company is also testing other ideas, such as the integration of fire safety systems, access control and intrusion detection with milestone platform.
