San Gimignano municipality renews its security infrastructure with Synology
To control parking areas, the video surveillance system has been renovated and an NVR Surveillance Station and RS3614xs storage system have been installed + Synology, that admits up to 90 IP cameras.
The Italian municipality of San Gimignano is located in Val d'Elsa, in the province of Siena and has been declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. It has 7.800 inhabitants and an annual tourist flow of around 3,5 millions of people. Municipal car parks pass 500.000 cars and 18.000. With this transit it was essential to have a system that would allow to control the parking structures, both for their correct management and to ensure the safety of their customers.
The municipality used two different CCTV systems. One dedicated himself to managing the IP network, made up of 20 Cameras, and the second for analog equipment, composed of 10 Cameras. Both systems had become obsolete. Compatible cameras were off the market and integration between the two systems had become non-existent. In addition, maintenance costs had become unsustainable and specialized personnel required increasingly costly operations.
ICT managers were looking for a powerful and scalable solution, based on your organization's future needs. His intention was also to take advantage of the greater number of cameras they already had in their possession.
After an evaluation of several NVR-CCTV products, focused on solutions and technology Synology.
Synology's Surveillance Station network video recording system turned out to be compatible with the 90% of the cameras they already had (both IP and analog). This made it possible to contain the initial costs of commissioning the new system and recover resources for the purchase of new digital cameras.
Taking into account your future needs, decided to purchase a RackStation RS3614xs storage system + Synology, that admits up to 90 IP cameras. In addition, have improved the CCTV system with the purchase of a dozen new cameras Axis P1425-LE, that allow them to monitor critical areas even at night, thanks to the IR illuminator with which they are equipped.
Thanks to Synology's surveillance station, the Municipality can independently manage its CCTV system. Operators' work is much easier. They have purchased three VisualStation VS360HD, operators can manage the system and download the recordings in case of need.
The transition to the new system was completely transparent to operators. While the two old CCTV systems were still in production, set up the old cameras on synology's new system. At the same time, installed the new Axis cameras in the parking lots.
