Asda sees unknown loss in its stores with Tyco Retail Solutions technology
Tyco's Sensormatic SMaaS solution provides cloud-based real-time data intelligence to this British distribution company.
Tyco Retail Solutions (Now Johnson Controls) has introduced new capabilities to its Sensormatic SMaaS solution (Shrink management as a service) for electronic item protection systems (Eas) and loss prevention, with the aim of making these kinds of problems visible in the 642 chain stores Asda in the UK.
For the first time, a British retail chain gets a global view, connected and web-based of its unknown loss management ecosystem, which translates into more reliability and performance of EAS systems and more effective ways to combat it.
Sensormatic SMaaS is a Google Cloud-based service that combines device management and predictive analytics to manage unknown loss and, at the same time, detect its causes. With the help of data control panels, draws conclusions from analyses to identify problems in advance and facilitate decision-making.
The implementation of SMaaS in one of the UK's leading retail distribution companies is part of a five-year strategy developed by Asda and Tyco Retail Solutions to update their EAS solutions and labeling ecosystem, as well as to improve alarm management in stores.
Through SMaaS, Asda's loss prevention department automatically receives exception-based notifications to identify serious issues that require immediate attention.
Preventive measures allow Asda to simplify its operations and secure its investments through initiatives focused on the use of centralized management processes, optimizing work in stores and detecting potential training gaps.
"The evolution of our EAS technology has given us new perspectives, and a centralized management system that improves the efficiency of electronic protection equipment to more proactively control our 642 real-time stores", says Andrew Rees, director of Asda's asset protection area.
For Catherine Walsh, Vp. and CEO of Tyco Retail Solutions, "Sensormatic SMaaS facilitates intelligent data analysis, that can be leveraged to improve the operations and marketing of products. Examining this data provides Asda with tools to understand the potential impact on the decline and make data-driven decisions that will positively influence your earnings account".
This solution provides a clear picture of store-level operations, District, Region, and even in the whole company, to isolate data and compare performance metrics.
For example, the retail organized crime map provides a clear view of the activity of criminal gangs in a given geographical area, including alarms for detection of aluminum-lined bags and signal inhibitors.
Other advantages are that it identifies groups of stores where the same type of crime occurs, which provides the company with accurate analysis to make decisions and take preventive measures, in addition to helping reduce unknown loss, s spent less time managing systems and devices that don't work, and more to improve customer service.
