Leon to install access control system to preserve its historical heritage
The company Kapsch will be in charge of implementing an access control system in the historic center of the city, by reading license plates, in order to preserve historical monuments and improve traffic flow.
The technology provider, services and solutions for Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), Kapsch TrafficCom, has signed a contract of more than 3,4 million euros with the León City Council for the performance of the maintenance service, infrastructure management and new facilities of the city's traffic management system.
Kapsch will be in charge of implementing an access control system in the historic center of the city, by reading license plates, in order to protect the historical heritage, improve the quality of life of residents, as well as the transit of merchants in the area. In short, facilitating mobility and reducing pollutant emissions.
"An intelligent management of the flow of vehicles results in an improvement in the quality of life of citizens and neighboring merchants, and help, at the same time, to the conservation of historical monuments, favoring tourism", says Javier Aguirre, Vice President of Kapsch for Spain and Portugal.
Under the contract, whose duration is six years, Kapsch will also be responsible for the operation of the traffic control room, as well as the technological renewal of its systems and the improvement of communications in the city of León.
