The Thula Thula Game Reserve in Zululand, in the Kwazulu-Natal province of South Africa, It is a sanctuary for the region's wildlife. In 2009, under the auspices of international conservationist Lawrence Anthony and his wife Francoise Malby-Anthony, joined two others to form an area of 500.000 Acres, known as the Royal Zulu Biosphere.

This space has become an oasis for a wide variety of animals and a place for the protection of the region's endangered wildlife, in particular, rhinos, threatened by poachers.

blankThe orphanage for baby rhinos was established by a team of conservationists and philanthropists, such as Warren Mc Allister of the organization Protection Through Innovation. A facility that required advanced IP surveillance technology capable of protecting orphaned rhinos 24 hours of the day, and provide security to staff.

The organization Protection Through Innovation partnered with Vivotek, its distributor Rectron and the local security company Dimension Security for the implementation of the security project.
Vivotek has sponsored this installation by providing an IP surveillance system integrated by 24 outdoor dome and bullet type network cameras, 2 network recorders and a PoE switch.

The dome cameras are housed in an IP66 and IK10 rated enclosure that is weather and vandal proof. They feature advanced infrared illuminators for day and night protection, and WDR technology that allows them to capture dark and bright images in detail, What's Essential in the Dazzling South African Desert.

The outdoor bullet cameras are also housed in IP67-rated housings and feature day and night functionality thanks to built-in infrared illuminators that offer a range of up to 20 Meters, allowing rhinos to be tracked and protected at night.

Vivotek's network recorders are capable of 16 Independent Channels, They come out-of-the-box and allow automatic setup at the touch of a button to connect IP cameras and offer intuitive surveillance management solutions to the rhino orphanage team.

The usability of Vivotek's IP surveillance system allows the orphanage staff to focus on their primary tasks of caring for the young rhinos and helping them grow.

While this project is underway,, with trenches that still need to be dug inside the enclosure, The surveillance network has already had a profound impact on the ability of staff and volunteers to run and run this baby rhino orphanage.
