Bosch protects with its cameras the operation of an open pit mine in the Atacama desert
The eleven network video surveillance devices of this manufacturer installed in the state copper mine Radomiro Tomic in Chile have provided not only greater security to the enclosure and the operations that are carried out in it, but a better decision making of the geotechnical team to gain in productivity.
Located at 3.000 meters above sea level, in the Chilean Atacama Desert, in the Andes, the Radomiro Tomic open pit copper mine is located, owned by the state-owned enterprise Codelco, a dangerous and hostile environment, dust clouds or frequent rock avalanches that endanger the work of operators who transport thousands of tons of rock in large trucks and excavators on a huge area of 3.500 meters long, 1.500 width and 470 meters deep.
To maintain the highest safety of workers, as well as the intense productivity of the mine, Codelco has a team of three hundred geotechnical experts who oversee day and night operations at a nearby center., making decisions based on weather and other parameters to protect staff, machinery and roads, interrupting mining activity as little as possible.
In addition, eleven security cameras from the manufacturer Bosch Security have been deployed in the cabins built around the mine, whose video images and data are continuously transmitted and monitored from the control center to know the type of weather, even under conditions of total darkness during the night, and that the geotechnical team uses to have more observation points and quick decision-making to ensure that the operation in the mine is calm and safe.
Specifically,, six Bosch MIC thermal devices 412 And 612 provide standard and thermal images so experts can visualize internal geological conditions and different temperatures, like that of the rock walls, For example, that provides valuable information about the resistance of the rocks and thus determine previously which walls have a danger of collapse, Etc.
Four other cameras of the MIC model 550, as well as an IP Starlight MIC 7000 Hd (in the attached image) with infrared illumination from this manufacturer, provide more video images 24/7, even in complete darkness.
The latter device is designed to work in extreme conditions, withstand high-impact solid metal bodies (up to IK10) or continuous low-frequency vibration (Iec 60068 Valuations).
MIC cameras, IP68 rated, they also withstand extreme weather conditions and temperatures(From -40 at 60ºC), strong winds and one hundred percent humidity, and forms the basis for the management of the entire mine. From capturing video images from the open sky, are transmitted wirelessly over radio networks to the monitoring center, from where experts constantly visualize and control operations in the well, analyze the geological conditions of the rocks and take preventive safety measures if required.
This security system also records videos – via a Divar IP recording unit 7000 also from Bosch-, which allows control center personnel to execute research queries for the analysis of historical data and make reports to better understand mine conditions.
