The video surveillance solution that EMT and Orange have launched in Malaga allows to store the images captured by the cameras of the buses, while telemetry records information on the mechanical and operating parameters of these public transport vehicles.

EMT Malaga

In a commitment to further develop innovative services for the city, the Municipal Transportation Company (Emt) Malaga and Orange have launched a video surveillance and telemetry system, that will increase the safety of the traveler on board the buses, as well as the sustainability of urban transport.
This video surveillance service allows you to store the images captured by the cameras of the buses, helping to clarify the incidents that may occur during the journeys.

In addition, supervisors can connect in real time from the plant and see what's happening to ensure safety on board. In emergency situations, bus drivers have the option to contact Malaga's EMT headquarters via an emergency button, generating an alert and initiating a real-time recording that is automatically sent to the headquarters of the transport company.

For its part, telemetry solution records information on mechanical and operating parameters of buses, saving data such as fuel level, battery status, localization, kilometers traveled, hours of service or even the number of braking or charge level of the vehicle.

Control system

EMT MalagaThe installation of both services has been carried out through a system composed of a single computer adapted to withstand extreme vibration and temperature conditions. This control system is responsible for the two services jointly developed by EMT Málaga and Orange.

The on-board computer is connected via a 4G data SIM card (Orange M2M) to EMT headquarters. Through the 4G network it is possible to view up to 4 simultaneous cameras per bus with HD video quality and has reduced video upload times thanks to the low latency of this network.

The service also uses a private communications network to ensure the security and privacy of connections between headquarters and buses.

The system has been developed with sufficient flexibility to incorporate future on-board services, thus minimizing the number of control devices installed on the bus. Among the initiatives that can be developed soon are content management, tourist recommendations or individually and remotely managed advertising on each bus.

This service adds to the recently launched NFC service (Near Field Communication) by EMT Malaga and Orange to access public bikes and the bus with mobile, and the one previously developed three years ago with this same technology to validate each trip just by bringing the mobile closer to the reader located inside the bus.
