Hotel Meliá Santo Domingo installs Vivotek IP security cameras for its comprehensive security system
Oriented both to the protection of guests and strategic areas and to improve the logistics of the establishment, This important hotel in the Dominican capital has opted for cameras, Video recorders and IP video surveillance software from the Taiwanese manufacturer for its comprehensive security system.
The project for the Meliá Santo Domingo Hotel, a benchmark for tourism in this area of the Caribbean Sea, with five-star category and in which they work directly and indirectly 1.500 People, involved the installation of network video surveillance system supported by systems of the Taiwanese manufacturer Vivotek, oriented both to the protection of guests, of the key areas, as well as to reinforce the administrative logistics of the establishment.
To date, This hotel did not have a video surveillance system, but with a team of security guards for the protection of people and property, As stated by the security specialist, Computing and telecommunications Reqquality Systems. In addition to offering high quality, Performance and scalability, One of the requirements was that the cameras integrate to the maximum with the environment and decoration of the hotel and the system will use the deployment of fiber optic links that had been made to unite the main buildings of the hotel complex.
Vivotek IP video surveillance technology was the option chosen for the project, with the installation and deployment of 48 Network cameras in strategic areas of the hotel and three network video recorders (each with 2TB of hard drive), managed with this manufacturer's ST7501 software.
Although this software supports up to 32 cameras per server (Nvr), The customer was offered the possibility to divide the recording into modules of 16 per-server cameras to make better use of storage capacity in each NVR, and at the same time leave them ready to easily expand the system by simply installing additional cameras without the need to reinvest in the recording platform.
One of the main challenges of the project has been the topology and the data network, since there were significant distances of many of the cameras from the control and monitoring center installed in one of the hotel buildings, which was solved by creating 'concentration points', that are then interconnected with each other taking advantage of the fiber optic lines that the client had already deployed.
To this was added the location of the cameras in the corridors of the rooms, where there was only artificial lighting, yellow and quite low intensity and never entered natural light, This caused videos in those areas to show distorted colors., Because there was no 'white light reference'.
This challenge was solved with the collaboration of the Vivotek team, which made it easy to manually set the white balance of the cameras and adjust the color temperature very simply and effectively.
The installation of the security system in this busy five-star hotel and in continuous operation was also laborious, Since it was necessary to control the emission of noise in the corridors of the rooms and work in some areas only a few hours per day so as not to hinder the work or events that were executed in them.
Specifically,, For this project have been installed 37 Vivotek IP7133 cameras, oriented to supervise (Audio & Video) in public areas inside the hotel (Room corridors, Reception, Elevator lobby on all floors, restaurant, Etc.
To monitor outdoor access areas and service area corridors (in low light), six Vivotek IP7142 cameras have been distributed, a superdynamic bullet model with IP66 protection for indoor/outdoor infrared.
The parking area, the main entrance and lobby features five day/night Speed Dome PTZ cameras, with 18x optical zoom and Sony CCD progressive scan sensor, of model SD7151 from this manufacturer.
The result of this project has increased the effectiveness and efficiency of hotel security indexes, both to confirm incidents and improper actions and to deter, in addition to improving the internal evaluation of customer service parameters, Administrative and logistical performance.
