Metro de Málaga has relied on Indra as a technological partner for the creation and implementation of the control center from which the entire infrastructure of the network is managed, both suburban rail traffic and the stations, communications and ticketing systems.

Metro Malaga control center

The Spanish multinational Indra has become a technology partner of Malaga Metro, that has relied on its technology for the creation and implementation of the control center from which all the infrastructure is managed, both suburban rail traffic and the stations, as well as the systems of sale of transport titles and access control for all stations of the two lines that the Malaga suburban currently has.

The control center is equipped with the advanced metro management solution developed by Indra, that allows the full integration of all the elements necessary for the operation and supervision of the network, integrated management of the different lines, all this with the highest possible level of automation of the operation. Operators thus have real-time information for decision-making and the resolution of potential network incidents.

The solution implemented in Malaga Metro includes integration with the operating planning subsystems, traffic regulation and real-time monitoring of train traffic, as well as a tool for monitoring and controlling all fixed installation systems (Stairs, Elevators, Ventilation, low voltage, Etc.), video surveillance system with cameras Pelco by Schneider Electric (analyzed in Digital Security Magazine), access control, intercom and public address. In this way, the operator will have full control of all metro systems from his post.

Advanced control center

Malaga's new Metro control center, located in the workshop and garage building of Los Asperones, has a room equipped with four operating stations, plus one specific for maintenance, as well as a large video wall in which you can visualize the operation of the lines and monitor the stations, because the solution is integrated with the CCTV video surveillance system (Cctv) and access control.

The supply and installation of the display system has been entrusted by Indra to the company Rpg, who has set up the videowall with ten DLP displays and 70 LED technology″ Full HD firm Planar.

Indra has also been responsible for implementing a new data center (Cpd) next-generation, that supports both the activity of the control center and all communications integrated into an IP platform, that allows the user to communicate with all systems from the same device.

In this sense, a Scada energy management system and a Scada control system for fixed installations have also been integrated at the checkpoint, among other systems.

Ticketing technology

The multinational has also been responsible for implementing the system of sale of transport tickets and access control of Malaga Metro, It's about contactless technology (Contactless) that allows you to validate the ticket by bringing it closer to a reader, so that it promotes greater agility in the entry and exit of travelers.

All stations have, at least, two steps of reduced mobility (Pmr) facilitated passage for people with mobility problems or carrying baby carts, suitcases or bicycles. Like other systems, ticketing is also integrated into the control centre.

The application of this advanced management technology allows Metro de Málaga to have "real-time information for decision making and offer users the best service, with the highest levels of security, efficiency and respect for the environment. Thanks to that added value, citizens' use of public transport is enhanced, a key aspect at a time when one of the main challenges for the future of cities is to respond to the need for more efficient transport and mobility, ecological and sustainable", point from Indra.

Among other suburban transport projects, Indra has already created the integrated control centre for the Kuala Lumpur light rail and monorail (Malaysia), as well as the Medellin Metro (Colombia), moving towards intermodal transport models, integrating the management of the different modes of transport.

Also in the field of the management of public passenger transport, the solution to support the operation (Sae) Indra manages more than 13.500 buses around the world, with references in countries like Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, Poland, Morocco, Portugal or Spain.
