Skully, augmented reality reaches the helmets of motorists
The Skully helmet is designed to make it easier for motorcyclists to drive and, to do that, incorporates the HUD system, a camera with rear projection, GPS and mobile connection. All voice controlled.
Skully Helmets a helmet is developed so that motorcyclists can enjoy the advantages of augmented reality while driving. The helmet, which is under development, is designed with the Android operating system and incorporates a HUD projector (head-up display), a camera, voice and GPS controls.
The HUD projector allows the driver to view the information in the viewfinder in front of the line of their eyes without having to take their eyes off the road. In this way, and thanks to the GPS that includes, you have a browser that shows in the viewer information of the path to follow to go to the location that has been indicated.
The data appears in the corners one and a half meters ahead of your field of vision so it does not hinder visibility.
The camera, located on the back of the helmet, provides a vision of 180 degrees and is associated with the front projection viewfinder. This allows the driver to see what's going on behind him..
Both the interface and the different functions it includes are handled by voice controls. In addition, the system is integrated with the mobile which is controlled safely thanks to the hands-free function that incorporates. It also has sensors (accelerometer, gyroscope and compass) that provide real-time traffic information alerts. To demonstrate that it is a secure system has the American DOT certification and the European ESE. All this equipment is powered by a battery that gives you up to nine hours of continuous use.
The Skully helmet uses a modified version of Android that is also compatible with iOS smartphones, and its creators plan to make the software development kit public before the end of the year so that third parties can create their own applications. The system software can be updated via WiFi.
