Axis Communications has added a number of new features to the Axis Camera Companion IP surveillance software, that works with network cameras and video encoders from the provider of network video solutions for professional installations. Peter Friberg, Director of System and Services of the Swedish firm, has indicated: “The first version of the Axis Camera Companion was very well received by the market. Until August 2012 have been recorded around 20.000 downloads of this software. This indicates that users really appreciate the simplicity and superb HDTV picture quality offered by the Axis Camera Companion.. Based on the contributions of our customers and partners, we've taken the next step and introduced a selection of features that add more value for small business owners.”

New version includes support for one-way audio for easy listening in an area. The use of IP technology allows for simple and affordable audio. A network camera with audio support sends audio and video over the same network cable, eliminating the need for separate audio cables. Another supported feature is Axis' unique Corridor Format for effective monitoring of, For example, Stairs, lobbies and corridors. The new version also supports public monitoring for loss prevention in commercial environments. When downloading a third-party app on a mobile device, the camera can stream live images to any standard monitor. To ensure that the video is accurately saved for use as proof, the new version also offers the digital signature of the exported material.

Axis Camera Companion enables small business owners to use HDTV network cameras to help them clearly identify intruders, thieves and other incidents. The video can be viewed live and played back recordings from anywhere – on site or remotely over the Internet.. System supports motion detection and pan/tilt/zoom control. Video clips and snapshots can be easily exported to colleagues and authorities, and the system is compatible with third-party applications for viewing live and recorded video on smartphones and tablets such as the iPhone, iPad and Android.

Unlike analog surveillance facilities, Axis Camera Companion does not require a central recording device – a digital video recorder (Dvr), a network video recorder (Nvr), or even a computer-. All images are recorded on a standard SD memory card in each camera, and cameras keep recording even if the network fails. Cameras are powered via the network, eliminating the need for separate power cords. This reduces the cost, simplifies installation, and makes the system more robust as there is no point of failure. To further protect clients' investments, existing analog cameras can be integrated via video encoders.
