Thurrock reduces crimes thanks to IndigoVision technology
The Township of Southern Essex County, Thurrock (United Kingdom), has resorted to IndigoVision video surveillance solutions to renew its network of security cameras, managing to reduce crime rates.
The English municipality of Thurrock has updated its network of old CCTV cameras with the most modern IP technology of IndigoVision, which has significantly reduced the amount of time spent by local police reviewing recordings. As a result, several crimes have been detected, from theft to antisocial behavior, and appropriate arrests have been made.
The previous system had 220 cameras in 28 Locations, that were connected to local recorders that had a fixed storage capacity. How the cameras were activated by movement, memory was quickly completed in the busiest locations and important recordings were often overwritten. ClearView Communications, IndigoVision Authorized Partner, was managing the existing solution and understood the challenges and limited budget that was available.
The original analog cameras were retained and have been connected to a new central backup system with more than 30 Memory TB. Both live and recorded images are viewed over a wireless LAN, in new plasma screens in the control room of the municipality. In addition, five mobile cameras have been added that can be placed where they are needed. Recordings are transmitted to the control room using 3G mobile networks.
IndigoVision's system offers better resolution and frame rate, and the amount of storage required is significantly less due to IndigoVision's advanced compression technology and the use of the activity-driven Frame Rate per second feature (Activity Controlled Framerate or ACF). The ACF function controls the frame rate of the camera's video stream based on the amount of movement in the scene.
IndigoVision's advanced motion search features allow police to pinpoint the time and images in recordings, reducing the time it takes to identify incidents. Thanks to IndigoVision's scalable architecture, more cameras can be added and the system can be expanded when needed in the future, no system downtime.
Advantages of the new IndigoVision system:
– Motion search feature allows police to locate incidents quickly
– New backup system with enough memory for storage 30 Days
– ACF function and advanced compression technology reduce storage needs
– Mobile cameras transmit over 3G networks
– Cameras can be easily added and moved to enable future expansion
